Credited directly as a key animator from the Toei Animation TV production pipeline, Akiko Sugizono brings an unmistakable, high-fidelity anime aesthetic directly to the One Piece Card Game. Rather than adopting the textured, painterly styles typical of standalone card illustrators, Sugizono’s work exemplifies modern sakuga (animation flair). Her line work is exceptionally crisp and razor-sharp, preserving the dynamic contour variance of production character model sheets while capturing decisive in-between kinetic moments. Characters are framed with immediate visual drama—poised mid-motion, mid-shout, or striking their most iconic poses, granting cards like Leader Uta (OP06-001) and Boa Hancock (OP07-038) the emotional punch of a climactic TV anime cut. Sugizono’s color handling relies heavily on modernized cel-shading combined with digital post-processing. Distinct, hard-edged shadow splits define the anatomical contours of characters, complemented by high-luminosity rim lighting, soft glowing particles, and vibrant ambient gradients. Her palettes faithfully echo the heightened saturation of the modern TV series—especially post-Whole Cake Island and Film: Red aesthetic standards—rendering skin tones vivid, costumes richly saturated, and special attacks ablaze with luminescent energy. What makes her illustrations instantly recognizable across the card pool is their authentic animated presence: every piece looks less like a static portrait and more like a keyframe frozen at the emotional zenith of an episode.
