02 / A — The character’s story
A promise across the fog
What can remain of a crew after its last song?
The story here runs through Thriller Bark.
The Rumbar Pirates
Someone waiting at the beginning.
Brook’s voyage with the Rumbar Pirates leaves Laboon waiting at Reverse Mountain for a reunion. The promise connects their adventures to a particular friend, giving their journey a destination beyond the next island.
The final performance
Keeping their voices.
After the crew is fatally poisoned, Brook joins their final recorded performance, preserving a song for Laboon. His Devil Fruit returns his soul to a body reduced to bones, leaving the musician alive with the voices of companions he has lost.
A new voyage
A promise with a way forward.
Meeting Luffy and joining the Straw Hats breaks Brook’s long isolation. He carries the recording into a new crew’s voyage, where music can become shared life again while he continues toward the friend still waiting.
