The assault that could not break a promise
What does overwhelming force fail to understand about loyalty?
The story here runs through Jack’s defeat on Onigashima.
Zou
Demanding the person a nation protects.
Jack invades Zou in search of Raizo, bringing Kaido’s power against the Mink homeland. The defenders’ refusal to surrender him turns the attack into a test of loyalty that Jack answers with escalating destruction rather than understanding.
The aftermath
Winning ground without winning submission.
Even after poison devastates the island, the Minks keep the promise that brought the assault upon them. Jack’s return meets Zunesha’s overwhelming response, exposing how much he has failed to grasp about the place he treats as something to conquer.
Onigashima
The people he harmed return.
The raid brings Jack into battle with the Minks again, carrying the consequences of Zou into Kaido’s own stronghold. His eventual defeat by Inuarashi gives that earlier resistance a continuation, as a survivor of the assault finally overcomes its commander.
