02 / A — The character’s story
The survivor who placed his hope in Kaido
What holds a warrior beside the man who freed him?
The story here runs through King’s defeat on Onigashima.
Captivity
A name reclaimed through escape.
Before becoming King, Alber is held for experimentation because of his Lunarian heritage. Kaido’s escape gives him a path out, and following the man who frees him binds his future to a captain who recognises his strength.
The right hand
Keeping faith behind the mask.
As King, he becomes one of Kaido’s foremost fighters, concealing his face while defending the order his captain has built. His loyalty carries a personal history beneath that intimidating role, rooted in the belief he has placed in Kaido’s future.
Zoro
The promise meets another promise.
On Onigashima, King’s battle with Zoro brings his devotion to Kaido against a swordsman committed to Luffy’s ambition. When Zoro defeats him, the loss reaches beyond a contest of abilities: the future King has entrusted to his captain is being challenged by another crew’s resolve.
