02 / A — The character’s story

The flame that defied the bloodline

Can a chosen family answer the question left by a bloodline?

Story spoilers through Marineford.

  1. Brothers by choice

    Brothers by choice

Born as the secret son of the Pirate King, Ace grew up in Mount Corvo plagued by a bitter question: was it really good that he had been born at all? That darkness began to heal when he shared sake cups of sworn brotherhood with Luffy and Sabo, promising to live a life without a single regret under the open sky.

  2. A family at sea

    A family at sea

Setting sail as captain of the Spade Pirates and consuming the Flame-Flame Fruit, Ace eventually joined Whitebeard, discovering a father figure who loved him unconditionally despite his father's bloodline. At Marineford, after being freed, Ace gave his life shielding Luffy from magma, dying with a bright smile knowing he had found a family that truly loved him.
