What happens when a commander treats everyone around him as expendable?
The story here runs through Queen’s defeat on Onigashima.
Udon
Entertainment at a prisoner’s expense.
Queen oversees Udon’s prisoners with a taste for performance, turning captivity and punishment into public spectacle. His authority under Kaido gives the show its real threat: the people forced to participate cannot simply leave when the amusement becomes lethal.
The raid
A weapon turned on the crowd.
On Onigashima, Queen unleashes the Ice Oni virus into a crowded battlefield, endangering his own subordinates as well as enemies. Chopper’s effort to treat the victims exposes the difference between a scientist who uses people and a doctor trying to keep them alive.
Sanji
Strength without the right to define someone.
Queen’s confrontation with Sanji brings his technological power into contact with Sanji’s fear of becoming like his brothers. Sanji’s victory rejects Queen’s attempt to reduce him to Germa’s engineering, making the fight about the person using strength as well as the strength itself.
