02 / A — The character’s story
The brother who came back
What survives when a shared childhood is lost?
The story here runs through Dressrosa.
Goa Kingdom
A family of his own choosing.
Born into Goa’s nobility, Sabo leaves the life his parents planned for him and makes a home alongside Ace and Luffy. Exchanging cups of sake turns their friendship into a sworn brotherhood, giving him a family built on shared freedom rather than status.
Separation
A departure that becomes a disappearance.
When a Celestial Dragon destroys his boat, Sabo survives because Dragon rescues him, but loses his memory of the brothers left behind. He grows up with the Revolutionary Army while Ace and Luffy believe that their brother has died.
Memory
The news arrives too late.
Learning of Ace’s death brings Sabo’s childhood memories back, along with the knowledge that he can never reunite with both brothers. He remains a revolutionary, but recovering that bond gives him a personal reason to seek the Flame-Flame Fruit that Ace once carried.
Dressrosa
An inheritance, and a living brother.
In Dressrosa, Sabo reunites with Luffy and takes his place in the tournament for Ace’s fruit. Claiming its power cannot undo their loss; it lets Sabo carry something of Ace forward while fighting to protect the brother he can still reach.
