Born into the cruel Vinsmoke royal family of Germa, Sanji was locked in an iron mask and beaten by his siblings for showing human empathy and wanting to cook. Escaping into the East Blue, he found work aboard the Orbit, only to be shipwrecked on a desolate rock with the pirate Zeff. When starvation set in, Zeff gave Sanji all the food while giving up his own leg to survive.

Together they built the ocean restaurant Baratie, where Sanji vowed never to let a starving person go unfed, no matter who they are. Guided by the romantic legend of the All Blue—the dream ocean where fish from all four seas swim together—Sanji joined Luffy to cook for a family that cherishes his gentle heart.
