02 / A — The character’s story
A disputed inheritance made dangerous
Who gets to claim the family a captain leaves behind?
Story spoilers through Weevil’s pursuit of Whitebeard’s former allies.
The claim
Calling himself Whitebeard’s son.
Weevil appears with his mother, Buckin, claiming to be Whitebeard’s biological son and rightful heir. The claim is part of their story, not an established answer to his parentage, and it puts him in conflict with the family Whitebeard formed at sea.
The pursuit
Making other crews pay for the claim.
Encouraged by Buckin, Weevil attacks crews associated with Whitebeard while pursuing the inheritance she says belongs to him. His immense strength makes that dispute destructive for people whose bond with the dead captain was built through shared lives rather than a demand for treasure.
The legacy
Strength cannot settle belonging.
Weevil’s Warlord title gives his violence official standing without resolving the truth of the family story he has been told. His pursuit leaves a question hanging over Whitebeard’s legacy: whether belonging can be established by assertion and force when the captain himself chose to call many people his sons.

Fire across the frame.
Weevil stands amid flames, dark figures and diagonal light. The English EB01-023_p1 scan prints Bashikou; the Japanese same-suffix scan has different artwork and a printed S-KINOKO credit, despite its catalogue artist label.
The Japanese EB01-023_p1 shows different artwork from the English same-suffix print. Its scan credits S-KINOKO, while the catalogue label says Bashikou; that discrepancy remains unresolved.
